Ask.com: a Google challenger?
I’ve been trying out the “new” Ask.com for the past few days. This was formerly Ask Jeeves, but Jeeves was “fired” a couple weeks ago. Best wishes, Jeeves. Ask.com been relaunched in a simple, Google-style interface with much of the same functionality as Google.
I’m fairly impressed. It’s fast and the search results are pretty good. The Binoculars feature is cool, where I can see a snapshot of a page without clicking the link. That could be a timesaver when trying to weed out junk pages in search results. I think I’ll use it as a backup to Google for now - like when I’m not happy with Google’s search results or I need extra in-depth research on a topic.
Ask.com seems to be a cut above other Google wannabees. Although it has a lot of work to do to catch Google and Yahoo in penetration in the search market. More follow-up will come later as I use it more…

I’m still finding that Google isn’t the only definitive search engine I need. In fact, I’ve been disappointed with some searches on Google - particularly those searching for a phrase with common words in it. It’s this type of search that Ask.com can help with, providing that additional set of results when you need it. Check it out sometime. […]
